Activity #4
I am going to be up front here, this is a screencast that I recorded about a month ago. I am well versed in screencast. Since I use a mac at home and work, and I have made over 50 screencast, I purchased a program that is about $100 called screenflow. If interested you can click here. I have tried the vaiorious screencasting tools on the summer camp list, but they were all limited in some way (this is not to say screenflow does not have problems as well.) The main limitations of the online programs is time constraints. Although, it should not be a big deal, since most research says to keep your videos less than 10 minutes. If you own a mac and plan on doing a lot of screencast, I highly suggest you purchase (or better yet get the school to purchase) screenflow. Otherwise, if you are doing general recording any of the tools on the website would work great.

I think it is awesome to have a seasoned nerd to check out in the course of my fumbling. There is just SO MUCH for both teacher and student to use that it is a bit overwhelming. Now it is time for the administration to actually give us time in our classrooms instead of in mind-numbing teacher meetings so we can plan, produce and use.
ReplyDeleteHere, here, Gloria!
DeleteI hear yah. I put in countless hours outside of the school day on tech stuff. The biggest thing for me is I have found you really have to pick one tech you want to integrate and stick with it. Don't try to do four things new a semester just focus upon one. This way both you and the students don't get confused.
DeleteJustin - You're my "go to" blog before I start on things, as I know you're fluent in all this tech stuff and you've completed all the activities! Since I've never had students in your class or observed you teaching myself, I'm wondering how you actually show this in class - is it a replacement for when you're gone (I know teachers who record the lessons and have the sub play them) OR is it just another presentation tool for students to view so you aren't always the one standing in front and talking? Or do you post them as additional information for at home viewing?
ReplyDeleteJustin, do you use Smart Recorder at school? Just curious. I love it but will check out Screenflow to see what the additional features are... Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteI have never used smart recorder. I find anything made for the smartboard to be far more trouble than it is worth. Sadly screenflow only works on macs. There is a number of stuff online like screen-o-matic that have a lot of options.
DeleteYes, the little box of me is from the software I purchased. My computer has a camera on it that I use for the recording. Research shows that it is much better to have your face on any videos you produce. In general, even if you can't put your face on it, research illustrates that making your own videos is far superior to using other peoples. Students are more likely to watch them and get more from them.
ReplyDeleteJustin-
ReplyDeleteYour wizardry with technology is astounding to us all. Not to mention your prompt follow up on our comments despite finishing weeks ago.....
Here is my not so prompt response.
